Zwischenwelt on Radio and in The Wire +

There is a Zwischenwelt feature on Resonance FM tonight at 9pm on 'Adventures in Modern Music' (29th April). Susana Correia (pictured) will be interviewed by Derek Walmsley of The Wire. Very short notice I know but I only just heard as well. Hopefully this will be archived by them.
http://resonancefm.com/

While the show will be archived soon on The Wire website, (up now), and I will post the link once it's there (look below), for those of you with no patience and are more YouTube orientated the interview is now available in two parts. The biggest news from the interview is that the Zwischenwelt album will be coming out in a month or two on Rephlex. The rest of the interview with Susana Correia on the phone from New York, who is refreshingly open and forthcoming, goes into the detail about how they got together, how they collaborate, what it's all about and some of her own history.

Full programme up now as well.

Zwischenwelt will also be interviewed in the next issue (June) of The Wire as well. Again by Derek Walmsley, he this time got to speak with Heinrich Mueller, Susana Correira, Beta Evers and Penelope Martin for the short piece.

Also on The Wire website there is a very revealing unedited version of the interview between Derek Walmsley and DJ Stingray. Loads more about Drexciya, Detroit and Urban Tribe etc.

Dopplereffekt will also be playing in London on 21st May at a festival, more info here.

Just got sent this funny Warp promo sheet for The Elecktroids 'Kiloherz' EP as well. Has some new text not used anywhere else.

Background:The group is composed of four members who are all brothers. they migrated from Atlanta, Georgia to Flint, Michigan a year ago with their parents. Over the last four years the brothers have been playing locally at friends parties. They have never released a record. Their ages range from fifteen to twenty.

Motivation: God is the main motivation of the group.

Interest: Women with large butts and trucks with large bass and fat tires.

Concept: "We see ourselves as very electrifying. That is the reason we chose the concept of electricity" Another reason for the interest is the father of the group is an electrician.

ArD2 Remix

There is a Heinrich Mueller remix to be found on the soon to be released '2084 The Mixes' by ArD2 on Frigio. The track is 'Anti De Sitter Space' and can be found on a 12" which is limited to just 300 copies, so be fast! One of the producers behind this is Penelope Martin of Zwischenwelt. I mentioned this project of hers back in March 2009 if you remember. You can listen to a sample of it on the Clone site, link below. The voice you can hear on it is William Burroughs reading his infamous 'The Last Words of Hassan Sabbah'. I have a link to the full length reading below if your interested. The press release states, 'This vinyl contains 3 songs from the original album “2084”. ArD2 is an electronic music project based in George Orwell’s novel 1984 that combines music and sounds instead of words to tell a story set in a near future. ArD2 explore the dark side of the electronic music, by using dense atmospheres and sinister voices as part of the tracks composition. Developed by Spanish producers, Ekis and Penelope along with the graphic team (Digikampradesh and people of Brain Soup Lab). ArD2..s first album sets the blueprint musically and graphically for many more releases to come.'

There is a new version and edit of the Zwischenwelt track 'Shadow Being' up now on the ParadoxTwin YouTube. It's pretty similar audio and video-wise to what was up previously. This other version can still be seen on the Simulacron YouTube channel for now.

Drexciya Q&A 'Energy Flash' zine 1996

I was just sent a short question and answer session with Drexciya from ‘Energy Flash’#3, a Detroit zine from Sept/Oct 1996. Thanks so much for that, any more out there please send it my way and we can all share.

Drexciya - Under the Gun

1. What are your full names and under what pseudo's (each of you) record music.
A: Drexciya, Drexciya, Drexciya, Drexciya.

2. Is your environment in Detroit your greatest inspiration for your music?
A: No, it's a mental state of mind. We live like monks. No movement except air and sound.

3. Is Ectomorph Drexciya?
A: Hell no.

4. Is UR37, will it be bring forth new material or newly found material?
A: It's aged wine.

5. Given the propensity for Drexciya to conceal their identities , would it be safe to say there will never be any live performances.
A: No comment.

6. Would they be interested in playing an aquatic setting?
A: Yes

7. Why did ‘Drexciya 3’ appear on Rephlex and not UR?
A: The tracks were expendable.

8. There was much controversy around the 'True People" album, why did Drexciya do a track for such a commercial project?
A: A close friend asked for our help and we came through. It doesn't make a difference what project we're on, we’re still who we are.

9: What is the future for Drexciya?
A: Nothing - Drexciya Out.

The questions were compiled from fans who wrote into the zine and are predictably about their identities, would they ever play live and selling out. UR37 is ‘The Return of Drexciya‘ 12“ and I guess from this info that it‘s made of material from maybe 1995. From this it looks like even by the Summer of 1996 they were fully expecting to break-up and may have taken a break from recording altogether from 1995 to ‘Neptune‘s Lair‘(1999). ‘True People: The Detroit Techno Album’ came out in 1996 on React and ‘Davey Jones Locker’ is the first track on it. It seems like a pretty cool compilation to be on to me but probably did cash in on techno’s enormous popularity in the mid nineties. Discogs link below. I also just realised this was not included on The Quest so I better add it to my Drexciya: Oddities series. Hear it at

Zwischenwelt: Theory

Just up on the Paradox Twin YouTube account is a short video called ‘Zwischenwelt: Theory‘. It features some new music, kind of background stuff, plus a few still shots of the group members Beta Evers, Penelope Martin and Susana Correia. There are also a few shots of a transmitter device plus a longer scene at the end of a ball being moved by mental powers. It might be Evers that is speaking as it’s a German accent but it might not be her as well. It is delivered in a very natural but halting way like it’s just occurring to her, so it’s not being read. She says the following, “In science they have two big fields of research. The first field is the research about people who have different perception, who have so to say, more senses than so called normal people, a good example for this would be telepathy. The second field is the research about people who have special mental powers and they can influence physical objects with this power, a good example is telekinesis or levitation. Telekinesis is also called psychokinesis and it means influence of mind, of mental powers on a physical system.” Check it out for yourself.

On the Zwischenwelt MySpace there are now only two songs left on their player, ‘Shadow Being’ and ’Extrasensory’. On the Susana Correia MySpace all the songs are down. The video they had for ‘Segunda Realidad’ has also been removed from the Paradoxtwin account but I see the official ‘Shadow Being’ video is still up on the Simulacron YouTube account. Intriguing as ever, it's good to have them back. I would hope this is all a sign that their long promised album is imminent.
